If you’ve missed following along on social media, my shop was closed for over a month due to health problems, but I just reopened it today, and pictured in the gallery above are a few samples of some of the new postcards that have gone up! Click here to head to the shop now!
I am definitely playing a lot of catch up on things after being away so long, trying to get my commission work back on track, working at getting The Lion of the Sea out into the world (cover reveal coming November 14th), and trying to add fresh new items to the shop before Christmas hits. (I have some really great Caraval and Acotar inspired headbands coming soon, so keep your peepers peeled !) Also, in case you hadn’t heard, I’m so excited to announce that I got a two year contract with Sarah J Maas, she’s given me permission to not only sell ACOTAR inspired art, but I’m now allowed to sell TOG and CC art as well! I’ve added some of those fandoms into my shop already, but I look forward to creating new art for these in future too.
Apologies for any inconvenience my closure and absence may have caused, thank you so much for your patience. If there are any questions, needs, or concerns please feel free to email me.
It is amazing how much time it takes to create a new world, write scenes, pull it all together into cohesive illustrations and then edit, edit more and finally print. These things are what we are currently working on here at Whimsical for our upcoming graphic novel series. For me, the between times are full of practicing, and more practicing! As an illustrator it helps me to look ahead and come up with ideas and visual concepts for the series, it especially helps me grind the character designs into my drawing memory. I thought it might be fun to share with you some of the concept drawings I’ve come up with in the past few months around this new world (more to be announced in 2017), I hope you enjoy these! (Oh and if you’d like to see more on a daily basis be sure to follow me on Instagram –> @whimsicalillustration)
Oh and coming up shortly we’ll be posting an illustrated Christmas story special – another opportunity for you to get to know of these characters a little bit more!
The Kootenay Child Development Centre officially opens its doors on Sunday, April 1st, 2012 and I couldn’t be more excited for the families here in the Kootenays because I know how needed these services are and how hard people have worked to make this Centre a reality.
You see, even though there’s an estimated 700 children with disabilities in our region the nearest community of specialists is a 4½ hour drive through the Rocky mountains away.
And, even though we’re the only region in BC without this type of centre it wasn’t until last week that the provincial government announced it would provide $100,000.00 funding to our region for a child development centre.
Our community didn’t give up on doing what’s best for the children and families in our communities. In 2009 Community Connections Society of South East BC purchased the old Shannon’s Fabrics and planning and fundraising efforts began in earnest.
Thanks to the organizational and fundraising efforts of Gwen Noble, Jan McGinn, Patricia Whalen, Gail Brown and others and the generous support of families, individuals and businesses the Society has raised over $900,000 of its $1.1 million goal since 2009.
When we first launched Miss Emily Goes to Bat we did a number of library and classroom readings and pledged 20% of our retail sales to the Centre. We’re also excited to donate two signed, numbered and framed prints of Miss Emily to the Centre.
Congratulations to everyone in the Kootenay region for making this centre a reality –it wouldn’t be a reality without your support! 🙂
